So here we are. Forty-three years after David Gibson began his journey as the music director of the Basingstoke Choral Society, our time together is now drawing to a close. Throughout these years, he has introduced our members to the world of choral music, revealing its joys, challenges, and ability to unite people during both good and difficult times. He has unveiled works we might not have encountered otherwise and provided new insights into pieces we thought we knew well. I am certain he has had a similar impact on many in our audiences over the years as well.
Sunday, 30 March, is our last chance to spend time together making music at his last BCS concert in the Anvil, Basingstoke. Let's savour this moment. He may be stepping off the stage as our music director for the last time, but his commitment to choral music continues with his work in other choirs. Monday will bring a new day for David and for BCS; it will mark the beginning of a new era. Our search for David’s successor is well underway for our next concert in the summer. But for now, this is David’s moment. As we reflect on his impact on the lives of our members and audiences over the last 43 years, we cherish the memories that will endure.
